In October of 2018 I worked with The Avenue Concept to create Cupcake the Party Shark — a fifty foot long great white shark stretching five bays of this old bank building facade on Weybosset st in Providence. White sharks are increasingly prevalent in off the coast. Even though they rarely attack humans (we’re not their food after all), they have a powerful grip on my imagination. For me, this piece came to represent my fears and how I live with them. My recourse with fear, when I do confront it in my art, is to blow it out of proportion and dress it up. Thus a giant pink and purple shark.
